About Us

 

The Way to Happiness Sailing Program was created as a platform for teaching children and adults the basic life skills that lead to a happier life. Since its creation, there have been hundreds of events with thousands of people involved. There are now nearly daily activities at the lake camp or one of our other locations. Our kids are learning to be competent, trustworthy and industrious while learning about boating, navigation, knots and more.

We have worked very hard to be able to continue to have the use of a 22 acre camp on Lake Isabella, just 155 miles north of Los Angeles. This facility gives us the abiltiy to get kids out of the city and and away from the computer games where they can see nature and build skills in the real world.
 
Captain Scott Rhoads is the coordinator for all of the programs at the lake camp as well as on the ocean and bays. Capt. Scott has logged over 250,000 miles at sea on commercial vessels, sailboats and power yachts. The rest of the instructors for our programs have skills that range from past racing skippers and crew, to coastal and deep water cruisers, along with power cruisers and fishermen.

 

 

The lake camp is only 40 minutes from Bakersfield California. This make it possible to have kids fly in from all over the world to visit the camp. We can also support the kids in the local community. We have access to the beach area, docks, moorings and all the wonders of the Sequioa National Forest. With the continued access to this facility we can carry on our work to help hundreds of kids per year.

 
Our ocean and bay programs are run out of other marinas on our boats and on boats that are made available to us for events and activities. We participate in races, coastal cruises, island cruises, fishing trips, day sails, and many other activities and we charge no money for anything that is done at the marina and never have.
